I wanted
to make a few announcements here about the ACS Second Life Office. We
have decided to add a few volunteer positions to help us manage all of

Fayandria Foley will continue as our Relay For Life Chair, and Poppy

So How Does G Talk Compare with Skype?

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

Not exactly what you think you would hear from a
white-haired gentleman who is a ministry volunteer, but regular conversation at
the Atlanta NetSquared group.
Beginning with the first meeting in April 2007, the American Cancer Society Futuring and Innovation Center (FIC), with support of the
ACS South Atlantic Division, has sponsored the Atlanta chapter of NetSquared. I have [...]

Is it a sign?

Friday, September 21st, 2007

The march toward software as a service (SaaS) took a big step this week. SAP, a software company that makes big, complex software installations that grab information from all over the company and supposedly slice and dice it any way you want for “pictures” of the business, launched a web-based product called Business ByDesign. Since [...]

IdeaStorm = Genius = Why aren’t we doing this?

Friday, September 21st, 2007

So I got to watch a great presentation from the Dell New Media Team last night at the Austin Social Media Club. The main thing I took away was this little nugget of information about new Dell Web Site. Dell has launched a Web site called IdeaStorm where anyone in the world can go and [...]

Who’s brininging Web 2.0 in the door?

Thursday, September 20th, 2007

I ran across this eWeek article about a prognostication by the Gartner market analysis firm. They say Web 2.0 is being brought into organizations by the twenty-somethings who’ve grown up with computers, the Web, and the social tools of recent years. They’re referred to as "digital natives." That’s a marketing firm for you.
Digital natives—people who
grew [...]

That these cameras are being sold specifically for making videos to post on YouTube highlights the popularity [...]

Where Innovations Go To Die

Tuesday, September 18th, 2007

In an editorial in CIO Insight Magazine Eric Chabrow
pushes the point that the IT department is where innovation gets
transformed into a project, complete with restrictions, functional
measures, and performance benchmarks – all weighing down the rapid
development speed intrinsic to innovation. In the article Gary Hamel
cautions against turning to the IT department for help on some
initiatives. As [...]

Confronting barriers to care

Wednesday, September 5th, 2007

Trying to reduce barriers to cancer care thrusts you onto the front lines of one of the most vexing issues in the US today: the cost of healthcare, especially the cost of cancer care. One aspect that has begun to draw public attention is the relation between the cost and the financial interests of doctors. [...]

Bio power tools?

Wednesday, September 5th, 2007

Okay, okay…So this information comes from a source that’s pretty much a company press release. Still, if it’s true…
Q: What do you mean by “constructive biology”?Danner:
Constructive biology simply refers to Codon Devices’ massively
industrialized, synthetic approach. Using our BioFAB production
platform, we’ll be able to make genetic constructs so quickly and
cheaply that it will essentially allow all [...]

Fellow laborers

Monday, September 3rd, 2007

Are you working this Labor Day too? Yep, a project needs to get done. On the news this morning it said Americans spend more hours working per year than other industrial nations, so we’re the country with the greatest productivity.
That reminded me of a recent article in the NYTimes about the trend-setting vacation practices [...]
